Manuals can be found at the manufacturers website.** The subject of this video is how to change the engine oil and oil filter on a Kohler V-Twin Engine found on a Craftsman GT5000 Garden Tractor. The engine oil capacity is 1.7 – 1.9 quarts, and Kohler recommends using a multi viscosity, detergent type motor oil with a API SG rating. The Kohler OEM Oil Filter part number is 12 050 01. The engine should be cleaned and brought to operating temperature before the oil and filter is changed. If the engine can’t be cleaned, than at least clean the area of the engine involved in the oil change to prevent any dirt from entering the engine. Bringing the engine to operating temperature will help the used oil flow better and any impurities in the engine are more likely to flow out with hot engine oil. After the engine is cleaned and brought to operating temperature, than the next step is to find the oil drain plug, remove it, and let the old engine oil drain out of the engine. After all the engine oil has drained out of the engine, reinstall the drain plug. With the oil drained and the drain plug reinstalled, than find the oil filter and remove it. Not all engines found on lawn and garden tractors have a oil filter, so this step can be skipped if your engine doesn’t have a oil filter. Manuals can be found at the manufacturers website.* Checking the fuel system, and vacuum fuel pump on a V-twin 25HP Kohler engine involves checking the fuel lines that attach to the pump, and checking fuel flow. The first step is to check to make sure fuel can flow from the gas tank to the fuel pump. To do this, disconnect the fuel line from the vacuum inlet fitting on the vacuum pump. Take the fuel line and lower it to a point that is below the fuel tank and see if gravity will cause fuel to flow from the tank through the line. If fuel flows, than the line is clear. If fuel will not flow, than check the fuel filter to see if it is restricted. Also check the fuel tank shut off valve if the tank is equipped with one. The valve may be in the off position, or dirty and restricted. Check the fuel tank cap to see if the vent on the fuel tank cap is plugged. If the fuel tank cap vent is plugged than fuel will not flow out of the fuel tank. Next, check the pulse line on the vacuum pump. Make sure it is connected correctly to both the vacuum pump and the engine crankcase. Also, make sure the engine is not overfilled with oil and the pulse line is not filled with oil. If the engine oil is overfilled with oil, than oil can make its way into the pulse line and block the pressure necessary to operate the fuel pump. The next thing to check is the fuel line from the

Manuals can be found at the manufacturers website.** In this video I inspect the drive system on a Scotts self propelled walk behind lawn mower. Scotts does not manufacture their mowers, and the mower shown in the video is actually manufactured by Murray. Scotts also has John Deere manufacture mowers under the Scotts label. The self propelled wheels on this mower are actually plastic ring gears with tire tread, and the most common problem you will find with this type of system is the metal axle gear has a tendency to wear down the plastic ring gear, and cause the two gears to slip. It is an easy fix, and each wheel only requires removal of one nut and washer to remove the worn wheel and replace it with a new ones.

Manuals can be found at the manufacturers website.** This is the second part of a multi-part video. The lawn mower is a Yard-Man 21 inch self propelled mower with a rear bag. The engine is a Tecumseh model TVS105 L-Head engine. In this video I install a new J19LM spark plug and regap the plug to .030 inch. I check the ignition system by removing the spark plug wire cap and holding the end of the plug wire 3/16 from the spark plug while over turning the engine. If a orange blue spark jumps from the plug wire to the spark plug, than the ignition system is good. If you don’t get a spark than the ignition system needs attention. With the ignition system squared away, I turn my attention to the fuel system. I remove the fuel tank and fuel line and flush them out with water, making sure water flows through the fuel line. You can also check to make sure the fuel line is still flexible with no cracks or leaks. Next, I remove the carburetor float bowl and check to see if the carburetor is dirty. I did find some stale gas, but I think the carburetor is clean enough to work correctly. In the next video I will reinstall everything, add gas and oil, and start the mower. Thank you for watching!

Manuals can be found at the manufacturers website.** In this video I check the voltage and frequency at the outlets on a portable Briggs & Stratton Generator, and the RPM of the engine. I also change the engine oil. You really should get a repair manual for the generator your working on to see the electrical schematic and get the proper specs for the generator, but in the USA the voltage should be close to 120 or 240 volts depending on the type of outlet, and the frequency should be around 60 hertz. To get 60 hertz on most generators, the engine RPM should be close to 3600 RPM. Every generator can have different specifications, so a repair manual is really important for proper specifications and the electrical schematic is priceless. The engine on this generator uses a splash type oil system, so it doesn’t have a oil filter to replace. You simple drain the oil and refill the engine with 32 ounces of fresh oil. It is important to warm up the engine to operating temperature before you replace the oil. Warming up the engine helps the oil flow better, and it causes contaminates in the oil to get suspended in the oil and drain out with the old oil. I always use a single grade oil in the warm season with air cooled engines. Single grade oil holds up better than a multi grade oil under high temperatures.
