From the History Channel…….. Season 14 Episode 14 Fast-paced, fun and informative, Modern Marvels is The History Channel’s signature series focusing on historical technology. The series has focused (among other things) on wonders of construction (Erie Canal, the Pentagon, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, the Big Dig), the machinery of war (nuclear submarines, tanks) as well as technology linked to the everyday (power tools, home tech, garbage). A locomotive is a railway vehicle that provides the motive power for a train. The word originates from the Latin loco — “from a place”, ablative of locus, “place” + Medieval Latin motivus, “causing motion”, and is a shortened form of the term locomotive engine,[1] first used in the early 19th century to distinguish between mobile and stationary steam engines. A locomotive has no payload capacity of its own, and its sole purpose is to move the train along the tracks. In contrast, some trains have self-propelled payload-carrying vehicles. These are not normally considered locomotives, and may be referred to as multiple units, motor coaches or railcars. The use of these self-propelled vehicles is increasingly common for passenger trains, but rare for freight (see CargoSprinter). Vehicles which provide motive power to haul an unpowered train, but are not generally considered locomotives because they have payload space or are rarely detached from their trains, are known as power cars. Traditionally, locomotives pull trains from the front

Well the workbench build is moving right along. In this episode I got the top put together and installed. The bench gets a little oil rub down and the tail vise gets installed. I also have some surprises with bench top. I was going to use some 4×12 for the top, however, I came across some old Douglas Fir material that I just couldn’t pass by. The wood is at least 60 years old, has supper tight grain, and is perfect for this workbench. After getting it all planed down, installed, and finished, it looks amazing. In the next episode we will talk about installing the twin screw vise, the tail vise chop, putting in a shelf, and drilling some holes. Stay tuned. The next video will be a good one. It may be the last but, I think I will need to edit it into two videos. So, yeah for more workbench build videos.
