**Always follow the instructions in your repair manual when doing repair or maintenance work on Outdoor Power Equipment. Manuals can be found at the manufacturers website.** Only foam filters that are in good condition should be cleaned an reused. Brittle filters should be replaced with a new filter. Cleaning foam filters can be done by washing them with regular dish washing soap and water. You can also buy special cleaners that come in a can and are sold at motorcycle dealerships. After the filter is washed and dried, apply a lite coat of motor oil to the filter and soak the oil through the entire filter. Squeeze out any excess oil. I use whatever motor oil I have lying around, but the thinner the better. I usually use 10W-30 or 10W-40 motor oil. You can also buy foam filter oil in a can at your local motorcycle dealership.
