During a recent road trip to the southern states, I was fortunate to get a behind the scenes tour of the New DELTA Power Equipment Corporation with COO, Norm MacDonald, and DELTA President, Bryan Whiffen. During the tour I met just about the entire facility of employees, all proud to be bringing back the American Manufacturing abilities and know-how to DELTA, the American way. Two guys I really enjoyed learning from was shop foreman & UNISAW welder, Jody Quarles and Tom Starks, maintenance and facility manager. Striking members of Teamsters Local 743 talk about their employer, SK Hand Tools, stripping workers of their health insurance coverage without notice. UPDATE Nov. 4, 2009: SK Hand Tool workers end strike, get health insurance www.suntimes.com Teamsters Local Union 743, which represents about 70 workers at the company, said members voted by a three-to-one margin to accept a contract offer and return to work. “Because we are Teamsters and willing to fight, we’re now the only employees at SK with health insurance. This is something that all Americans should have,” stated Emilio Lunar, SK steward and strike leader.
