For $17 at Tru Value, this is the square to buy. Do not even think about plan B. I looked at the squares make by Empire, Johnson & the other Stanley squares at Home Depot & Lowes, and could not find one that was square compared to the other combination or framing squares in the stores, except for the Stanley 46-123 or the Starrett squares. I’m a struggling novice woodworker who does not need to be fooled by tools that claim to work but leave you with a false sense of security, until the end when nothing lines up & you have no clue why. I want a square to be square. Unless you want to pay $60-70 for a Starrett, I recommend the 46-123 and getting a square square.

here is a great value in a great tool. rated as a best buy in a woodworking magazine(i forget which one), so i gave it a whirl. the rule is very crisp and easy to read. i havent had the rule come loose after setting it. if you are worried about 1/64″ over a 10″ span, go ahead and get a high dollar square. but I’m sticking with my stanley

A combination square has to do three things: Be square, move when the nut is loosened and not move when it is tightened. This is the first low-priced square I have found that actually does all three. All of the others wouldn’t move when they should have and did when they shouldn’t. This one moves easily when loose and a light tightening keeps it in place. Less fighting the tool; more doing the job.

You would have to spend at least $40 more to get a better square. this is great. at the current price you canafford to buy an extra for your other tool box.

I received this product for Christmas and was disappointed. The product description provided is wrong. The ruler is regular steel colored with black etched markings, not “Unique high visibility black blade with deep etchings filled with yellow paint”. At first I thought they might have just shipped the wrong version, but it came with clear marked package labeled with the model #46-123.
Yes, the square works but it isn’t nearly as easy to read as I had anticipated. I’m very disappointed.
