The School of Construction, Motor Vehicle and Engineering offers a full range of courses in Construction trades such as Brickwork, Joinery and Electrical Installation and in Engineering trades such as Motor vehicle servicing and repair. Facilities are first class, boasting industry standard equipment and workshops that provide realistic, industrial working environments. Many of the courses in the School are practical based with underpinning knowledge provided to support the development of hands on skills. In Joinery courses, students first learn how to produce basic woodworking joints and how to use carpentry and joinery hand tools, and later produce window frames, doors, staircases and roofing structures. In the Motor vehicle workshop, learners experience live demonstrations and exercises in understanding engines, transmissions and chassis. This will develop skills in diagnosing and repairing today’s modern vehicles. Working as part of a team and working safely are both very important. For those who wish to train for a career in Electrical installation, the courses contain a mix of practical and classroom based work. They cover the skills needed to install wiring systems, enclosures and electrical equipment for domestic, and industrial installation, further courses cover the Inspection and testing of full installations. In the busy Construction workshops students will first learn how to set out the work area, mix mortar and create simple brickwork models, as they …
